In June, musical acts, artisans, and Italian cooking competitions among other demonstrations and tournaments are held at Marquette Park during the Memphis Italian Festival. Another popular event, the Cooper-Young Festival, is held every year in September in the Cooper-Young District in Midtown. This is a market and arts festival featuring displays, contests, and local music. Throughout the rest of the year, you can always find live music or numerous other forms of entertainment and events—it’s where Memphis soul, Memphis blues, gospel, rock n’ roll, and other music genres began.
If you’re in Memphis with the family, there are plenty of exciting attractions to check out. Ride the Downtown Memphis Trolley or take a Hop On, Hop Off Tour to get a feel for the city’s unique culture and downtown areas. Explore Shelby Farms Park or the Memphis Zoo for some animal watching or head to the Children’s Museum of Memphis for some educational fun. Mud Island River Park in downtown offers unique experiences, including the Mississippi River Museum, Riverwalk, amphitheater, and The Mud Island Monorail ride.
