Value Place Guest Wins $50K in Refer-A-Stay Giveaway
(Liberty, MO)—When Albert Stubbs woke up in his Value Place studio on April 2nd, he thought it was going to be just like any other day. That couldn’t have been further from the truth: At 5 p.m.,Stubbs was alerted that he won $50,000 through Value Place’s $50k Refer-A-Stay Giveaway!
Stubbs, an Army man for over two decades, had been staying at the Value Place at I-35 and Barry Road in Liberty since accepting an installation food program manager position at Fort Leavenworth in September and was scheduled to be shipped out on April 3rd for a five-week training course but thankfully, Value Place officials were able to impart the good news before his departure. To say Stubbs was surprised to hear his name called would be an incredible understatement.
“I am shocked but very happy at the same time,” said Stubbs. “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Value Place – I almost don’t want to leave! – but this prize is definitely going to make life a lot easier!“
Within 24 hours of learning Stubbs was the big $50,000 winner, the local Value Place team planned a fantastic award ceremony – with plenty of “American Idol”-style suspense – to present the check. Approximately 50 guests were in attendance including Liberty Mayor Robert T. Steinkamp, members of the local Chamber of Commerce, Glenn McFarland of M&M Properties Management and Value Place Franchise Services president Gina-Lynne Scharoun, to name a few. Value Place also awarded two guests with a free week stay at the Liberty property.
“Albert has served our country for more than 20 years and is a true advocate of Value Place,” said Scharoun. “We couldn’t have asked for a more deserving winner!“
Stubbs said he wasn’t going to enter the contest at first but being the structured military man he was, began entering each week after paying for his stay. Though he initially joked he’d use the winnings for a big spending spree, Stubbs actually plans to put most of it toward education: His wife, Lisa, is currently earning her degree and his 15-year-old daughter, Danielle, is beginning to look at colleges. He said he would also like to do some work on his home in New Kent, Virginia. And though Stubbs will be gone on assignment for five weeks, he likes his Value Place studio so much that he is paying to keep it while he is gone on assignment.
“It’s hard to find a place that has everything you need so seven months ago when I found this room at Value Place, I knew I didn’t want to give it up,” said Stubbs. “My colleagues used to question why I stayed at Value Place versus an apartment closer to the base but after I explained that out of all the places I’ve traveled to and stayed in the past, I felt the safest, most comfortable and most at home at Value Place, it all made sense to them.”
